The Real Game

Description: This career development program is one of a series of six programs that integrates financial literacy concepts across key learning areas. This comprehensive interactive learning kit offers a stimulating theme-based approach to life-like experiences as students explore the concepts and strategies that will enable them to make better informed decisions on education, income and job satisfaction, and gain a realistic understanding of adult life, work and society. Budgetary and time implications, financial management, goal setting, attitudes and behavioural and decision making concepts are integrated across curriculum areas such as Maths, English, HSIE/SOSE, English, and Family Life Studies. The kit contains all the material needed to present the program, such as: facilitators guide, student worksheets, posters, games etc.

Additional programs in the series include: The Play Real Game (ages 8-10); The Make It Real Game (ages 10-12); The Be Real Game (ages 14-16); The Get Real Game (ages 16-18) and The Real Times, Real Life program for adults.

Licensing arrangements: Originally developed by The Real Game Inc (Canada), the resource has been developed under a licensing agreement between The Real Game Inc and Curriculum Corporation under the management and direction of the Australian Government through DEST.

Professional development: Teacher training is provided through State education and non-government authorities as required.

Quality indicator: Meets the Financial Literacy Foundation's Essential Elements eligibility and assessment requirements. The kit was developed with input from the Curriculum Corporation and DEST's National Advisory Committee which comprises of State and Territory government and non-government education authorities responsible for managing The Real Game at State/Territory level and provides feedback and input during review/update processes.
